All engineer-related controls are easily reachable from the mix position. The 8-fader Artist Mix allows tactile DAW control. A 25-key MIDI controller and 16 pad drum pad controller allow for map input of MIDI data and basic production. All preamps and outbooard processing are easily reachable from the mix position as well. A radio style scissor mic stand attached to the desk allows for easy placement of a mic for laying down scratch vocals, VO, or even final production dialog. Small instrument hooks near the mix position allow for the hanging of small instruments such as ukuleles, mandolins, and violins, as well as a convenient place for hanging engineer headphones out of the way.
A custom-built wooden cover over the piano serves as the producer's work desk. Ample room to spread out production papers, set up a lap top, place your coffee, and set up your own dedicated talkback button for communication with the talent whenever you feel it is appropriate.
A small couch in the back of the control room is a great location for talent and other members of the production team to stay in tune with the work without breathing down the necks of the engineer and producers. A large 70" monitor above the mix position makes it easy to see what's going on from anywhere in the control room.
The vocal and instrument isolation booth attached to the control room provides a convenient place to isolate VO, vocals, guitars, and any other instruments. An instrument cable can be passed under the door seal to keep a guitarist in the control room while their amp is recorded in clean isolation without the use of any impedence switching hardware to stay true to their tone. A double-paned, 1/2" glass viewing window allows clear line of sight between the talent and engineer/producer(s) without compromising the necessary isolation between the two rooms. A 42" monitor mounted in the booth can be used for talent that likes to be in tune with the edit window of the session, display of scripts or images for production recording, or for video playback for ADR sessions. The iso and control room screens are both Airplay and Chromcast ready, so talent or production can easily cast their own content to them.
A restroom adjacent to the control room and in-room coffee bar further help to maximize studio efficiency. A mini fridge at the coffee bar is well suited to cold beverages or lunch storage. iPhone and Android chargers are readily accessible throughout the room. In-room script printing is available. Convenient hooks are located throughout the rooms for hanging cables, headphones, instruments, etc. Just outside of the studio is a dart board as well as a large patio for a leisurely break from the work.
